Economic growth?

May 25, 2021 The claim of nearly four percent economic growth may have created a ripple of excitement among government circles but it does not seem to have brought any significant change in the life of a common citizen, who continues to suffer because of the onslaught of the pandemic and unwise policies of the ruling elite. Skyrocketing inflation, massive unemployment, extreme poverty and lack of basic amenities are still plaguing the lives of the people. In a country of more than 207 million, around 89 million people do not have access to pure drinking water, the majority are still condemned to live in shanty towns and slums, more than 44 percent children are still facing the specter of stunted growth, almost 23 million children are still out of school, the contagion rendered over 18 million people jobless, and despite the much-vaunted health insurance 80 percent diseases are still water-borne, which this heavy investment failed to wipe out.

In a statement, Bilawal said Khan’s government used the old census data to depict higher per capita income, adding: “As long as there are experiments like Imran Khan in the country Pakistan cannot make progress”. Reminding the Prime Minister of his promises, the PPP leader recalled Khan had claimed to fix the national economy in 90 days but today it was 1011th day and still there was no economic recovery.

Miftah, Zubair dismiss economic success claimed by federal government

Miftah, Zubair dismiss economic success claimed by federal government Karachi May 24, 2021 Slamming the federal government for the gross domestic product (GDP) figure, leaders of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) on Sunday termed it unrealistic, saying that the Pakistan Tehreek-Insaf (PTI) government had pushed 20 million people into poverty and Prime Minister Imran Khan had borrowed in just three years a half amount of the total loan borrowed by the country over a period of 70 years. Addressing a press conference at the Muslim League House Karachi, former federal finance minister Miftah Ismail and former Sindh governor Muhammad Zubair alleged that Imran Khan had been running the country only to benefit his close friends.
